Want to add a 16x2 character LCD display to your project, and show off/display text/data?  For example, show the temperature/humidity readings of your indoor weather station, or show the IP address of your Raspberry Pi!

You can now do that with the ProtoStax LCD Kit V2! This replaces the ProtoStax LCD Kit (V1)

This kit includes a Top piece with the necessary mounting holes and cutout for a 16x2 character LCD, as well as the LCD module.

Our LCD modules come with an attached I2C module, so you only need two I2C pins to communicate with it (as opposed to needing 6 GPIO ports needed to communicate with a vanilla LCD module directly. With a vanilla LCD module, you'll also need extra components and additional wiring for backlight and contrast - our module comes with everything installed).

You can use any existing LCD I2C libraries with it. The LCD module is a HD44780 compatible one with 16 pins and LED Backlight (blue color). The I2C module is a PCF8574T based module. We have included links to some sample libraries below that we have tested with.

Simply replace the existing top of your ProtoStax Enclosure with the one from the ProtoStax LCD Kit (with the LCD screen mounted) and you are good to go! Connect the screen to your micro-controller/SBC to start displaying stuff for your project.

This will work with all ProtoStax Enclosures - Arduino, Raspberry Pi B+/4B/A+/Zero, Breadboard (Arduino Nano, Raspberry Pi Pico, Adafruit Feather, Particle, ESP, etc that are breadboard friendly MCUs).

Libraries:

Arduino: LiquidCrystal_PCF8574

Python (Raspberry Pi): RPLCD

This Extension Kit does not include the Enclosure. Make sure to add a ProtoStax Enclosure to your order if you don't already have it!

ProtoStax Enclosures are Stackable, Modular & Extensible

They ease your path from Prototype to Product! Make your prototypes useable and attractive with ProtoStax!

  • ProtoStax Enclosure / Case in Platform Configuration showing Arduino. Pre-drilled and threaded mounting holes make assembly easy and convenient. Acrylic risers elevate board off the surface for improved airflow

Use it as a prototyping plate, with full and open access to your device while prototyping. Rubber feet protect your board and your table top!

  • ProtoStax Enclosure / Case in Open Configuration showing Arduino

Omit the side walls and just add the top for an open configuration with more airflow and open access.

  • ProtoStax Enclosure / Case in Fully Closed Configuration showing Arduino

Add side walls and the top to form a fully enclosed case for maximum protection.

The cases offer connectivity to external systems using our unique cable management methods (see features above)

Extensible

Extension kits and Add-Ons allow you to add functionality to your enclosure. Add a fan or two, switches, camera & tripod mount, and more!

Just filter by "extension kit" or "add-on" in the main shopping page to view the choices, or click below!

Stackable

All ProtoStax cases are compatible with each other and can be stacked side-by-side (horizontally) or one on top of the other (vertically). Mix-and-match multiple ProtoStax cases and put together a larger enclosure from the individual ones! Our Raspberry Pi + Breadboard, or Raspberry Pi + Arduino enclosures are popular bundles. You can also mix-and-match various Raspberry Pi enclosures (A+, B/B+, Zero enclosures to build your hybrid cluster with whatever Pis you have lying around!)
